Dear Fish
Written/Illustrated by Chris Gall
Peter Alan writes a note to fish, inviting them to dinner and casts it into the sea in a
bottle - well, it isn't long before the town is filled with flipping and flopping, wiggling
and jiggling, hammering and yammering and still more pandemonium as a parade of creatures
take him up on his offer. The story is pure silly fun and a great opportunity to showcase
both Chris Gall's gorgeous illustrations and his perfectly painful picture puns. Some of
the whimsy of the illustrations made me laugh out loud - my favorite showed a little girl
blowing up puffer fish to make birthday balloons, while Jelly Fish are sneaking off with
the peanut butter. The text is a bit long and with so much of the humor based on puns,
this is really a book that will work best with 6 - 8 year olds, as puns tend to fall flat
with preschoolers. Still, for young school children - this one's a keeper. |
