D.W.’s Guide to Perfect Manners
Arthur Adventures
by Marc Brown
Marc Brown has given us another story about Arthur’s sassy little sister, D. W. In this one, Arthur has challenged
his bossy sister to one day of perfect manners, but is D. W. up for the challenge? D. W. is always pulling pranks
and being bossy, so this is a major dare. She is determined to have good manners, however, so she starts her day at
the kitchen table with breakfast and uses her manners, especially using the words "please" and "thank you." She
gets a big kick out of freaking out her parents with her nice manners. D. W. has tips for good manners for many
different occasions, including preschool, meal time, being on time, and helping around the house. A quiz is
included at the end of the book to allow readers to see if they have good manners. As is typical of the Arthur books,
the artwork features bright colors and animals with human characteristics. D.W.’s facial expressions are priceless
and depict her every emotion, including an impish grin. This is a great book to introduce and reinforce good manners
with young children. D.W. introduces different manners in a fun and creative way with a good sense of humor. One of
the points made is that it takes time to develop good manners and you have to work at it. Another good addition to
the Arthur series. |
