Ellen’s 11 Star Spectacular Superdeluxe Hotel
by Larry Schwarz
Illustrated by Kelly Denato
This lively picture book is told from the point of view of Ellen. She tells her imaginative version of the story, then
stops to tell you what actually is happening. Sometimes Ellen tells in words what the difference between her version
and the truth is, other times, the clever illustrations make the point for her. For example, the story opens with Ellen
telling us about her fancy hotel. The next page goes on to say, "Well, actually, it’s a motel outside Carson City,
Nevada".
This is a wonderful little story that will encourage children to see things in their own way and to use their imagination
when actual life events aren’t as exciting as they’d hope. The story ends with Ellen about to tell another tale, which
is a wonderful open ended way for children to tell their own story.
This book would probably appeal most to preschool children through 1st grade and would make a fun addition to any picture
book collection. |
