Text and illustrations by Kirk Scroggs This is the second installment of the graphic chapter book series, Wiley & Grampa’s Creature Features. In this episode, Grampa is throwing his annual barbeque. Young Wiley is looking forward to some good food for a change, and his Grandma’s honey paprika barbeque sauce is a prize winner... well, it is until a little mix-up in the ingredients causes the smell of the sauce to wake the dead - or the undead. Zombies invade the barbeque, but they make pretty good guests until the food runs out! Time for more quick-thinking....um, courage...um, dumb luck on the part of Wiley and his Grampa. Author Kirk Scroggs never met a gross joke he didn’t like, so there are plenty of icky moments to thrill young reluctant readers. Classic literature this ain’t, but if you want silly, mildy gross giggles that will lure your reluctant reader away from the television - this series definitely scores. |
