Nick & Slim
The Legend of the Falcon Mine

by Pamela Henn

The ghost town, Silverado, is an exciting class field trip for eleven year old Nick. The only trouble is, Nick has just moved to Beavercreek, Colorado, and hasn't made any friends yet. While the class is at Silverado, the journal of the notorious Slim Morano, who was hanged for murder more than 100 years ago, is stolen from a historical display about the legend of the Falcon Mine.

Nick's loneliness is really amplified when some of his classmates point to Nick as the thief, and no one will vouch for him. But then Nick comes face-to-face with Slim Morano, himself....or rather, his spirit. They have a lot in common; they were both set up and facing charges for crimes they didn't commit.

Nick decides to go back in time to the Old West to help Slim prove his innocence. Slim's friends, both spirits and mortals, work together to uncover a conspiracy of vengeance, greed, and murder. With danger building and time running out, Nick must uncover the truth to save innocent lives. It will change his own life forever. The battle between good and evil makes an exciting adventure in this time-travel fantasy that will delight your favorite kids and young adults.

There are great details about the working of a mine in the Old West historical period, and the transition between time periods is flawless. While this is a large book with 472 pages, the story leads you on effortlessly to a very satisfying climax.
