Pandora’s Box
A Greek Myth
Retold and Illustrated by Jean Marzollo
In a truly unique storyteller fashion, Jean Marzollo introduces her readers to Pandora and the infamous box she’s
forbidden to open. Created by Zeus as revenge for Prometheus stealing fire from the gods of Olympus and giving it
to man, Pandora is cursed with insatiable curiosity. After giving Pandora in marriage to Prometheus’ brother,
Epimetheus, Zeus gives them a huge strongbox as a wedding present; and after warning them not to ever open it,
races back to Olympus to watch his revenge on mankind unfold. He would’ve never guessed that his curse upon
mankind would also show them the one thing in the world that gives them a reason to keep on living - hope.
I am quickly becoming a huge fan of Jean’s incredibly brilliant illustrations and unique storytelling techniques.
The mixture of narration and dialogue gives young readers a chance to dive even deeper into the true beauty of this
amazing story. I highly recommend it for everyone, regardless of age. |
