Time Warped
Princess Natasha, No. 2

A Cartoon Network character, Princess Natashia of the kingdom of Zoravia is an undercover agent in America, protecting the world from the evil Lubek, ex-ruler of Zoravia. In typical spy fashion, most of Lubek's evil plans involve outlandish technology. In Time Warped, Lubek has a time machine and intends to go back in time and stop the election that ousted him from power in Zoravia. The only way for Natashia to stop him is to follow him back into the past and protect the future by ensuring that her own father, Carl, is voted King. Oh, and she has to do all this while protecting her secret identity - both in the past and the present. Luckily she runs into her friend Oleg... only he isn't her friend yet because this is the past - but he quickly becomes her friend. Really, it's not that confusing in the book. These books are short, fast-paced, crammed with action and based on TV... in other words, the perfect lure for preteen reluctant readers. The humor is also very pre-teen - practical jokes, nose picking and de-pants-ing all play a part, so we're not exactly looking at literature, but for the kids who aren't excited about reading, this might be a lively step in the right direction.
