Cosmos' Mom and Dad Are Moving Apart
The Playdate Kids

by Annie Thiel
Illustrated by W. M. Edwards

Cosmos' parents are getting a divorce, and Cosmos is sad and confused. His parents fight all the time, and he is worried that it is something that he did. His parents reassure him that is not his fault, that they are divorcing each other, not him.

Cosmos doesn't know how to tell his friends, but he is surprised to find that many other kids have moms and dads who are divorced, too. It is comforting and reassuring to talk to his friends, his teacher, and relatives he can trust and to share his true feelings.

After Cosmos' mom moves to a new apartment he visits her every weekend and he spends weekdays with his dad. Sometimes his parents still don't get along, but they seem happier now and they have more quality time with Cosmos.

This helpful book will aid parents or relatives to support children during the difficult time of parents' divorcing, reassuring them that it is not their fault and that their parents will always love them. It shows them that all feelings are ok, and that they need to talk to someone about their feelings.

The bright, full-color illustrations by W. M. Edwards add visual impact to the powerful text. This book is suitable for 7-10 year-olds to read independently or to read aloud to pre-school children. The last pages list ten things to remember and some cool things to do that will help kids through this difficult time.
