Lucy Rose:
Working Myself to Pieces and Bits (Lucy Rose series, book 4)
by Katy Kelly
I've heard a number of parents say they would like Barbara Park's Junie B. Jones if only she didn't use such
horrifying grammar. Well, Katy Kelly has created a series which should delight those moms. Lucy Rose is cut from
the same "original thinker" cloth as Junie B - only older and with a slightly larger vocabulary, thanks to her
love of collecting new words.
In this fourth book in the series, Lucy Rose teams up with her best friends Jonique and Melonhead to help
Jonique's parents remodel a store front and create "Bakery Divas" - a project which soon has the whole
neighborhood taking part. Add to this Lucy Rose's problems with her school nemesis, Ashley, who seems intent on
ruining Lucy Rose's life - unfortunately, Lucy Rose can't seem to get anyone to agree with her perfect plan for
putting Ashley in her place. Plus, as if that isn't enough, something is definitely not right with the girls'
favorite friend at the senior center.
With such a whirlwind of activity and characters, the plot can be a bit tough to follow in spots and I'm sure
it helps if you've met all these characters in past books. Still, Lucy Rose's over-the-top character is definitely
good for a few chuckles and this book is likely to be a sure hit with "original thinkers" everywhere. |
