Polar Slumber
by Dennis Rockhill
A little girl, playing in her backyard in new-fallen snow creates a beautiful polar bear in snow sculpture, and
then later she watches it from her window. As she falls asleep, the snow bear comes along with her to dreamland
where they visit the wintry, arctic landscape and all the winter animals there. When she awakens, there are paw
prints in her yard. Was the dream real?
This beautiful book is illustrated by the author in subdued winter colors, providing an enchanting visual
banquet. He uses Prismacolor® colored pencils in multiple layers to achieve the desired color, depth and
texture. The accompanying black-and-white mini-drawings keep the action going. The text is a captivating, lyrical
poem to lull the little ones to sleep. Some books are best read aloud to the little ones to provide explanations
and guidance for understanding, and Polar Slumber is definitely a read-aloud bedtime story. |
