It's
Not About You, Mr. Santa Claus
is a charming and delightful illustrated children's book that
tells the story of Christmas from a child's standpoint - in
a letter to Santa Claus. The child writes that he realizes
the true meaning of Christmas has nothing to do with Santa,
but rather it's about a very special gift: the birth of Jesus.
The author does a fantastic job of explaining the events surrounding
the birth, including the census ordered by Caesar Augustus,
Joseph and Mary's journey to Bethlehem, placing Jesus in the
manger (the wooden box where food for the animals is kept),
the appearance of the angel to the shepherds announcing Jesus
birth, the arrival of the Magi, and the secretive departure
of the Magi so that King Herod would not find baby Jesus.
Interspersed in the narration is the child's letter to Mr.
and Mrs. Claus, with the added note that, like the Magi's
gifts to Jesus, every gift given to a child is as if we are
honoring Jesus. Christmas is, in short, a celebration of His
birth.
Soraya Diase Coffelt has written an excellent and easily understood
explanation of the true meaning of Christmas that children
5 to 10 years old will enjoy and cherish. The illustrations
by Tea Seroya are whimsical and excellently rendered, the
story is captivating and will keep any child's attention.
The author has done an excellent job of explaining Christmas
in terms that all young children can understand, treasure
and love.
