About Trees for Kids By Gail Gibbons Little Brown - April 2002 ISBN 0-316-30903-6 Hardcover Children / Nonfiction Reading Ages 4 - 8 Reviewed
by: Beverly J. Rowe, MyShelf.Com Gail Gibbons, author of more than one hundred informational books for children, has presented us with a wonderful new nonfiction picture book all about trees. Her lively discussion of photosynthesis and how trees grow fits right in with early elementary science lessons. Her craft ideas for leaf and bark rubbings and a scrapbook for tree identification make exploring the subject of trees lots of fun. Gibbons has illustrated her book with lively watercolors peopled with multi-ethnic children, making it just right for groups. Drawings of the various kinds of leaves, seeds, fruit and bark that make up the world of trees are well done and invite further investigation. Her conservation ideas will appeal to children and encourage them to think about the world around us. How about a summertime weekend project with your kids identifying the neighborhood trees? |
