Meet Our Flag, Old Glory
By April Jones Prince
Illustrated by Joan Paley

This book is a wonderful addition to your favorite little person's library. It will encourage patriotism and give the kids a great sense of pride in the National Flag. The rhyming text is beautifully written, and the history section in the back of the book tells all about Old Glory, from how she originated to how she got where she is today. The text to the Pledge of Allegiance is coupled with the history and meaning of the pledge that we give as we stand tall, with our right hand over our heart, and promise our loyalty to America.

The history section also gives other traditional uses of Old Glory, as well as the National Flag code which outlines proper use of the flag.

The bright illustrations by Joan Paley are collages of shapes cut from colored paper, and then painted with water colors, crayons, and other media to create a layered, three-dimensional effect.

This stunning book would work equally for families or classrooms, and should be read together to encourage ideas and thoughts about patriotism and our country and that wonderful symbol of the United States, Old Glory.
