“Dubliners” is a set of fifteen stories set up in Ireland. The stories are read by famous authors like Frank McCourt, who wrote Angela’s Ashes and by famous Irish actors like Colm Meaney and Brendan Coyle. The stories are set in different time periods and cover every aspect of the average Irish man/woman’s life. Seeing as how there are fifteen stories, I’ll just have to tell you about my favorite two.

“Araby” is about a young man who has a crush on a neighbor. When he finds out that she wants to go to the Bazaar in Araby but can’t because of a meeting that’s being held at her convent, he goes to Araby for her to buy her something in hopes of winning her favor. That’s where his adventure begins.

“Eveline” is about a 19-year-old girl who is stuck in an abusive family life. She goes through her days thinking of her how her life at home with her father is getting worse by the day. Frank, the young man she is to marry, offers to take her away from all of it, but her feelings towards Frank are diminishing and she doesn’t know what to do. Will she go away with Frank or will she stay with her abusive father and live in poverty?

“Dubliners” is definitely good for anyone who loves listening to long stories of other people’s adventures and sorrows. The stories are a bit complex at first, but after a while, they become very easy to comprehend. It’s a great listen for anyone who loves Irish stories written and read by Irish people.
