I wonder how many Dean Koontz fans have been searching used book databases for years, looking for a book named "The Book Of Counted Sorrows." I looked everywhere; I inquired of every library and used book dealer I was able to contact. Koontz has included quotes from that book as leaders for many years, whetting our appetite to see the whole book and glean it's wisdom. Then we learned that the poetry was written by Dean, and that no such book existed. How disappointing!

Now he has put together the "Counted Sorrows" poems along with a hilarious history of the book, and a glimpse of life at the Koontz mansion. When I downloaded this e-book, it was certainly not what I expected . . . but it was well worth the wait. After reading such books as "Whispers," "Intensity," "Mr. Murder," and his other frightening horror books, I had no idea that Mr. Koontz could write such sidesplitting humor. And then . . . beginning after page 145, there is the poetry for which we have searched so long.

The characters that populate Koontz manor and the historical owners of "The Book of Counted Sorrows" are marvelous creations by a master. I will not be able to read another Koontz horror tome without remembering how Mrs. Scuttlesby sees to it that Dean toes the mark at the Koontz Estate, or the many owners of the "Book of Counted Sorrows" and their improbable fates . . . the "Counted Sorrows Curse." This is truly a whole new insight into the mind of a genius. Mr. Koontz, please give your devoted fans more of this side of your creativity.
