They say that mountain people are set apart and different. No one knows this better than Abby Porter. The Porter family has had their share of hard times. Rose Porter, Abby's mother, died bringing her into this world leaving Solomon Porter left to care for the children and a newborn daughter. Most of all, Solomon was left with bitterness for Abby. She was a big part in taking her precious wife's life.

Growing up, Abby felt her father's disapproval. I felt such sympathy for Abby who grew up one parent and an uncertainty of her importance. She developed into a young woman in such a harsh environment. Solomon goes on to remarry a local woman.

In reading this book, you come to understand the people that lived in the mountains married for a lot of reasons mainly survival. Abby distances herself from her father and discovers other possibilities away from the mountain. Can Solomon finally come to peace with Abby's birth before it is too late? Can Abby fulfill her wish to finally be accepted as a daughter? This is a homespun tale that reflects the importance of family and putting your faith in God's ultimate plan.
