In his novel, Perestroika Sunset, author Alan Stang delivers a scathing denouncement of the U. S. government and its part in the cover-up of POW/MIA issues during the Vietnam War as well as underlying Communist plots to block search efforts. It makes you wonder if the rumors are true. How much of this story is fact? Certainly, at least one of the politicians is based on a real person.

The plot takes you relentlessly to the surprising conclusion. This was a very difficult book to read because of the subject matter and the psychological issues, but one I couldn't put down. It gives you a whole new perspective of our involvement in Vietnam.

Stang tells the heart-wrenching stories of the women who waited at home and their years of frustration, knowing that they have been victims of lies. Gay Fawkes is the daughter of the main character, Jason Fawkes. She's a college professor and Olympic gold medalist who lost her father at the age of eleven. Her efforts to find him are heroic and against all odds.

The battle scenes are realistic and bloody. The revenge scenes are heartening and will have you cheering out loud. Stang has written ten books, most nonfiction dealing with scams and cover-ups. His research is impeccable, his craftsmanship superior and his storytelling excellent. I have added him to my list of "authors to watch for."
