Sabrina Stone married a wealthy man. However, she married a selfish man whose is completely immersed in his work in the corporate world. Sabrina is totally responsible for the care of their young, severely handicapped son, Nicky. Sabrina's husband refuses to accept that their son has special needs. As a result, Sabrina bears the burden of caring for their son alone. Sabrina comes from a family of writers and she herself is a published author. However, since Nicky was born, Sabrina has had to put her writing career to the side in order to care for their son. As a result, Sabrina is frustrated, exhausted, and often unhappy. Nicky is a sweet child but his needs are constant. Sabrina's husband is always at work or traveling and she has trouble communicating with him even when he is home. Their marriage has deteriorated over time.


One day, a high-profile television reporter named Derek McGill pays Sabrina a visit at her home. Derek wants to interview Sabrina because he is working on a story concerning handicapped children. Sabrina refuses to be interviewed for fear of her husband's reaction.


Months later, Sabrina is shocked when she finds out that Derek is in prison, having been unjustly convicted of murder. Sabrina's curiosity about Derek leads her to visit him in prison. One visits leads to subsequent visits and a friendship is formed. Derek is determined to get to the bottom of who framed him for murder.
Sabrina and Derek form a strong bond of love and friendship that is tested in many ways throughout the story. There are some descriptive, passionate love scenes in this book although the story is much more than "just a romance." The author weaves an entertaining tale of romance, suspense, and mystery in this book. Sabrina comes from a quirky family of famous writers and reading about her eccentric family members was especially entertaining. Reading about Sabrina's sweet, handicapped child was bittersweet.
