Everyone knows you're not supposed to tamper with the Word of God, the Bible. Yet that has not prevented writers throughout the ages from using their talents and creativity to weave stories about the great Biblical characters. From David and Bathsheba, from Solomon to Gideon, from Jesus to the Book of Revelations, authors have been weaving stories about the lives of these fascinating people.

Kurt Schuller, the author of "Except for These Chains: The Trials & Triumphs of St. Paul," has taken the Book of Acts and the Epistles and woven a remarkable story about the life of the Apostle Paul. Schuller begins his tale with Saul as a reckless, competitive adolescent hopelessly in love with Rachel, whose attention he loses to his best friend, Marcus. The story winds its way through Saul's conversion, his lost of his friendship with Marcus, Paul/Saul's inability to convince Jesus' followers (later to be dubbed Christians by Nathan) of his conversion, through to Paul's imprisonment and eventual release in Rome.

Under Schuller's pen, these mighty men of God become human with all their faults and foibles exposed. Schuller uses tears and laughter, sarcasm and sincerity, compassion and anger to create a believable cast of characters. Characters that are not only believable but who will also instill in you a sense of the eternal truth upon which this novel is based.
