Jacob Evans is an ordinary man who lived an ordinary life. He served the required time in Vietnam, came home and married his high school sweetheart, gained employment at a bank, and raised two sons and one daughter. They, in turn, provided Jacob with grandchildren to love and adore. Nothing extraordinary there. Yet even in the most ordinary, everyday life, there are extraordinary occurrences; events and happenings that provide even the most obtuse person a glimmer of wisdom, a ray of hope, and/or an insight to the true nature of life and those things that are, in reality, more important than anything else.

Manchester tells the story of Jacob Evan's life through a series of stand-alone short stories spanning the extent of Jacob's stay on earth. These short stories, in turn, include personal journal entries, poetry, correspondence, and even a screenplay. Unusual, yes, but it works effectively to convey the color and scope of this ordinary man's life in an extraordinary way.

In the tradition of Aesop's Fables, almost every short story has a moral or a kernel of wisdom to impart. And, this is what makes Jacob Evans by Steven Manchester extraordinary - the ordinary, everyday wisdom it imparts. Wisdom that is sometimes, by some people, never learned, but yet remains just under the surface of the ordinary waiting to be discovered.

For example, in the story titled, "Self-Mutilation," attorney Darren Coyne learns the hard way that you reap what you sow. In the story, "V.I.P. Membership," everyone learns that faith is not restricted by labels, denominations, or traditions. And, in the story, "Hitchhiker," Emma learns that appearances can and are deceiving.

Regardless of the flavor of fiction you prefer, i.e. horror, adventure, romance, mystery, literary, etc. Jacob Evans by Steven Manchester has something for everyone.
