Jim Benson had it all, a loving wife and family, a job he enjoyed, and music which soothed and satisfied his soul. He had it all, that is, until a string of tragedies struck. There's an old saying that goes, "Bad things come in threes." For Jim Benson, the protagonist in Mary's Field by Vic Peters, this old saw was to prove to be too true. The first tragedy changed his body and his life. The second tragedy changed his mind and attitude. But the third tragedy would forever change his heart and soul.

As Jim Benson struggles to cope with the aftermath of these tragedies, he is helped along his new challenging path by a diverse group of characters, i.e. a mysterious cowboy who suddenly and dramatically comes to his assistance; a mangy, "wanna-be" cattle dog named Two Eyes; and a calico cat who has a tendency to appear at the most inopportune or, perhaps, opportune times, much like Alice's Cheshire cat.

Mary's Field by Vic Peters is a story about despair and faith, about failure and triumph, about war both external and internal, and peace. But most of all, it is a story about love; a love so deep, so true, and so complete that it has the power to overcome even death's siren call.

Mary's Field by Vic Peters is an uplifting, realistic, and illuminating novel for it sheds light into some of life's more complicated problems and challenges. By providing the reader with such simple truths such as the difference between a wish and a prayer, Peters provides the reader not only with a feast of fine storytelling abilities but also with a banquet of thought-provoking opportunities.

I highly recommend Mary's Field by Vic Peters, and can't wait to read his next release.
