Weeaks, MyShelf.Com In Miss Julia Throws a Wedding, Ann B. Ross brings readers the third installment in the life of Miss Julia and those she holds dear and not so dear. (First two in the series are: Miss Julia Speaks her Mind and Miss Julia Takes Over.) Miss Julia is an older Southern woman full of vim and vigor. She lives with her late husband's former mistress, Hazel Marie and Hazel's son, Little Lloyd. Little Lloyd means everything to Miss Julia and it pleases her to learn that he's willing to take on the hard work needed to continue his father's financial legacy, mainly because others around her aren't showing a lick of common sense. It all begins with Hazel Marie wanting to move in with her latest love, J.D., without the benefit of marriage. Miss Julia points out that Hazel Marie obviously hasn't learned from past mistakes. Also in the storyline is an escaped prisoner who swears he's innocent. His lawyer, Binkie Enloe, is planning to marry the man hunting him down, Deputy Sheriff Coleman Bates. Miss Julia is the couple's wedding planner. She has put many to work at making the wedding happen at her beautiful Southern home. Her only fly in the ointment is the pink elephant across the street - the new church family center. Her own pastor, who is out of town, erected it and while he's away, his wife comes up with crazy schemes for the church and the new center. I loved the humor attached to this part of the storyline. With all that is going wrong, will the wedding happen? To find out, readers will have to wade through the lives of these classic characters and get to know them intimately. It's a wonderful, entertaining series with characters written to test avid series fans' loyalty as much as they test Miss Julia's. Ross's humor is subtle and her characters are perfectly imperfect. I recommend this series for anyone looking to sit back and enjoy a simple read that doesn't tax the brain or push any anxiety buttons. Kate White is the reader of the audio book.
