Bee Bearhorn, nee Beatrice
Wills, is what is known as a one-hit wonder. In the 1980's, she hit the
top of the charts with a music single that was loved by all. However,
the music industry is fickle, and when her next two singles bombe,. Bee
was dropped from her label. She left the public scene. Now she has died,
a suicide, and it is up to her shy younger sister to clean up her belongings.
Ana Wills never really knew her glamorous older sister, who left home
when she was very young. Because of a horrendously selfish mother, Ana
has no life her own. This trip to London gives her some much-needed away
time and she decides to stay and learn about her sister, teaming up with
Bee's driver and best friend Flint to find out why Bee killed herself.
More than finding out about other people, Ana begins to learn about herself.
When I started "One-Hit Wonder", I expected a light, frothy
read but as I got more involved with the story, I saw it as anything but.
There were many funny moments but Jewell also explored the deeper issues
which made this a very complete and pleasurable book. Ana has a wonderfully
sympathetic and fun persona and it was hard not to develop a crush on
Flint. I can't wait to read Jewell's next book.
