Richard Siebert, MD, kept an extensive diary of his tour in Vietnam, allowing him to create a story revolving his fictional character named Daniel Schubert. Schubert is a Navy Surgeon whose medical team cares for the Vietnamese.

Personal Wars opens with the war physically over, but continuing mentally forever in Schubert's mind. He vividly describes the frenzied life of the field hospital. I found myself reliving many episodes of *M*A*SH*, and could hear the sounds and imagine the expressions of fear and anguish.

Personal Wars gives great insight to the Vietnam War. You will understand the name while reading about the adventures and romantic conflicts of Daniel Schubert. Richard Siebert has poured his soul into this fictional story, enhanced by personal memories. So few want to talk about this time period, while Siebert uses this novel as a descriptive tool.
