American Woman American Strong
By Melissa S. James

The events of 9/11 shocked the world, but no one more than Arianna Neumiller. She is a young pregnant woman, with a whole bag full of trials and tribulations. The last thing she needs is for the final phone call from her parents-just before their names show up on the casualty list of the tragedy.

Arianna travels on a road to search for answers. She is plagued by a very abusive husband, who causes her to lose her very-much wanted baby, the loss of her parents and the shocking news that she was adopted. It seems as if her entire world is about to crumble.

The endearing thing about American Woman American Strong is the fact that even in the face of such problems, Arianna is somehow able to overcome all the obstacles that attempt to trip her up. Her best friend, Regina, is as strong as Arianna, as is her aunt.

This book will leave you feeling like you can conquer anything. If Arianna can triumph, just imagine how easy it should be for those of us whose problems are so much smaller than hers to be victorious.

The descriptions in the book of the places Arianna travels to-Iowa, Washington state and eventually to Pakistan-are fascinating, but the real strength of author Melissa S. James is in her characters. You not only come away sympathizing with them, but feeling like they could easily become some of your own best friends. If the chips were down, I would definitely want somebody like Arianna in my corner.

A very good read, and if you feel insecure in your own situation, a definite recommendation.
