Angels
of Saigon
By Leonie
Campbell
Angels
of Saigon introduces the reader to Thi Kim, a Vietnamese woman
who is trying to survive the Vietnam War and succeed for herself.
In this harrowing story, the woman simply wants a place to belong
and someone to love, but is raped, loses a child, and deserts her
husband. She eventually finds a place where she never thought she
could belong, but sees the positive work being done and vows to
continue to help the children of Vietnam.
Angels
of Saigon clearly shows Ms. Campbell's first hand look at Vietnam
and what women had to go through during and after the war. Ms. Campbell
is able to show the reader the depth of Thi Kim's character through
character development, demonstrating the heart-rending suffering
of the Vietnamese people. There are several subplots, but they never
deter from the main story line.
Angels
of Saigon is a well-written story that clearly shows examples
of how the people of Vietnam, in particular the children and women,
were effected by the Vietnam War.
