Flight
Lessons introduces readers to Anne, a woman who has to overcome
several betrayals, including one from her own family. Anne is asked
to return to her family-owned restaurant after sixteen years of
being estranged. Anne is faced with her aunt that she had been able
to avoid all those long years. Is she able to overcome her differences
with her aunt and help with the restaurant or will she leave her
aunt stranded?
Ms.
Gaffney is able to answer that question and bring the reader to
feel for Anne and her estranged aunt. The plot is simple but enjoyable
for the reader. The characterization of all of the characters, both
major and minor, are excellent and make the reader imagine exactly
what each unique quark each character has that adds to the family
atmosphere of the restaurant. The setting of the restaurant is at
the heart of the story and is necessary for this story to make sense
and flow as easily as it does.
Ms.
Gaffney does an excellent job in making the restaurant business
exciting and does so long before the television show made it visible
to viewers.
