Love
and a Bad Hair Day
By Annie
Flannigan
Jolene
Hadley Corbett lives in a town where not much happens. When Ry O'Malley
comes back into town, she knows that he is going to shake things
up. The O' Malleys and the Hadleys have had a feud going on for
as long as anyone can remember. Now it seems like Ry is going to
keep the war going with his decision to shut down South Winds Trav'O'Tel.
Jolene loves the hotel and more importantly, the hotel is pertinent
to the local economy in Verbena, North Carolina. Jolene decides
to fight Ry about this and she isn't going to let a little thing
like his groping her when she was fourteen get in the way. So what
if she loses her cool when she gets around him? Putting the town
first will just have to come first, assuming Ry and Jolene can keep
their hands off of each other.
Love and a Bad Hair Day
is an amusing, if not predictable, story. Jolene was an interesting
character to spend about three hundred pages with but I didn't feel
like the secondary characters came alive. What kept me reading to
the end was the relationship between Ry and Jolene. It rang true
with every word and gesture. While this was not my favorite book
of the year, I am still glad that I read Love and a Bad Hair
Day.
