Papr: Kut
By Ian McLachlan

Papr: Kut takes a unique look at the theme of survival. It is looked at from two distinct points of view: an elderly home patient, Stephen, and a young metalhead, Jason. Stephen is confronted with thoughts of his life and what the future could hold without him in it. Jason is faced with what the future will hold for him as he arrives in Italy and is confronted with trying to handle moving to a new country and what that brings to a person.

Papr: Kut is the second novel by Mr. McLachlan. He is able to take a central theme, in this case survival, from several different points of view, and make the story succeed. Mr. McLachlan is able to successfully develop the characteristics of both Stephen and Jason and tie them in with the central survival theme. The places where Stephen and Jason are help convey the theme but could take place in some other areas.

With survival being such a major theme that can be looked at so many different ways, it is refreshing to find an author who can take such a large theme and point out essentials within two different and distinct characters as Mr. McLachlan does in Papr: Kut.
