The
Road to Ruin
ByJack Conway
At one hundred and
seventy six pages, The Road to Ruin is one of the fastest,
funniest, and not to mention one the most far-fetched reads I've
experienced in a while.
Dr.
Victor Luna is on his way to Ruination, Maine to host the First
Annual Victor B. Luna Film Festival. The good Doctor is a professor
and has won the Nobel Prize for Literature. He also wrote a book
that was made into a movie. His only regret is that his readers
are caught up in one famous bedroom scene dubbed "the part."
Jack
Conway's humor shows up in names, as well as action, in the short
novel. Luna is related to the Ball's: Mary Dodge Ball, Otis Hard
Ball, etc. The old family made money in the Ball Bearing business.
How the three little Maine towns focused on in the novel-- Industry,
Ruination and Delirious--get their names is even more inventive.
Luna's
goal is to get to the festival; the highlighted adventures that
pack the pages take place on the way to the festival, during it,
after it, and long, long before Dr. Luna was born. The pages are
full of exaggerated tales meant to give the reader more than a few
chuckles. The R-rated theme may have some blushing, so consider
carefully if this is your type of read.
