When
the Wind Blows
By James
Patterson
Blair Brown (Reader)
If you
pick up When the Wind Blows expecting to read Patterson-style
suspense, you are in for a big surprise. Patterson seems to be crossing
over into other genres. This one reaches into science fiction and
SF fans will take to When the Wind Blows as mystery readers
took to Patterson’s Alex Cross series.
Veterinarian Frannie O'Neill is one
of the lead characters along with FBI agent, Kit Harrison. The story
takes place in Colorado. It all begins with the hunt for a little
girl called Max, who was raised in a lab for a special purpose.
No one else knows of her existence or the others. Soon Frannie crosses
paths with the child.
Kit
comes to Colorado, ostensibly on vacation, and rents a cabin that
Frannie shared with her late husband. Soon Kit becomes involved
with Frannie and Max. He wants answers about how Max became what
she now is – a child with wings. Frannie and Max aren’t
aware of it, but Kit has his own suspicions. Max trusts no one.
No one, that is, until she is injured. Then, she has to trust the
one person who can help her.
Actress
Blair Brown reads When the Wind Blows. Her narration of
this unusual, suspenseful science fiction is dead on.
