Ain't She Sweet?
By Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Thinking it was safe to return to her hometown, Sugar Beth Carey still faced scrutiny after fifteen years. In Ain't She Sweet?, Sugar Beth is forced to swallow her pride and ask for forgiveness and help, especially from Colin Byrne, a man whom she tried to ruin fifteen years prior. Can people in Parrish, Mississippi ever forgive Sugar Beth for her previous faults and see the woman who stands before them, or is Sugar Beth fated to suffer throughout her life?

Ms. Phillips' characterization of Sugar Beth's personality is excellent. Readers get a strong feel of what Sugar Beth is going through currently and how hard she is trying to get people to overlook her shortcomings from the past. The depth of the relationship between Sugar Beth and Colin is realistic and shows some small town mentalities and how some cannot get over the past that easily. The small town setting of Parrish is a must for this type of novel. If it was set in a big city, there would be too many people who just did not care about what Sugar Beth had done.

Ain't She Sweet? is a fantastic story about how to overcome one's faults and show how strong some people have to be to live day-by-day.
