Holy Fools
By Joanne Harris

Go back in time to the early 1600's and be a woman who has recently lost her husband and forced to carry secrets and a hidden identity. This is what happens to Soeur Auguste. Soeur is forced to become a nun after giving birth and while there, she learns to appreciate love and compassion. Soon it is ripped from her and then Soeur is forced to meet with someone from her past when a spiritual guide comes to take over the nunnery. Will Soeur have to face her past or can she keep her questionable history to herself with the arrival of this spiritual guide, Pere Colombin?

Ms. Harris shows a depth to her characters that not many authors can do. The setting of the 1600's and the island off the Brittany coast adds to the isolation factors that Soeur searches for and finds. The ideas of witchcraft and small theater groups in Soeur's past adds to the mysteriousness of Soeur and Pere. The mysteriousness of Soeur shows how much one woman can face and still overcome obstacles.

For fans of Joanne Harris, Holy Fools, will continue to delight their minds with the historical nature of Ms. Harris's writings.
