Sam's
Letters to Jennifer
By James Patterson
Jennifer
has been through the devastating loss of her husband dying young
in an accident, and afterward, loses the baby she was carrying.
She thinks she can never be happy again. However, when a tragedy
turns into something good, Jennifer is finally able to smile. Called
down to her childhood home, Jennifer finds her grandmother, Sam,
(who is also her best friend) hospitalized. When she arrives home
after visiting the hospital, Jennifer finds letters addressed to
her from Sam. Jenifer had wanted to know her grandmother’s
life story, and is ecstatic to find that that is what is in these
letters. She begins to read them a few at a time. Between reading
the letters and visiting Sam, Jennifer never expected to find love,
much less happiness, but that is what happens. From here, Jennifer's
life changes in ways she never thought possible.
Sam's
Letters to Jennifer is a fast paced book filled with many emotions.
While I feel that the book could have started out in a smoother
and more interesting way, I soon found myself caught up in the story.
Jennifer is a likable protagonist (though I would have liked to
see more of her past), and the man she falls in love with is admirable.
The story is a little too sappy at times and very different from
Patterson's thrillers, but it is enjoyable.
