The
True and Outstanding Adventures of the Hunt Sisters
By Elisabeth Robinson
The
True and Outstanding Adventures of the Hunt Sisters is what
Olivia Hunt called the stories she made up for her little sister,
Madeline, when they were children. Now grown, the sisters have very
different lives. While Maddie seems to have it all – a perfect
marriage and expecting her first baby – Olivia’s life
is a disaster. Her career as a movie producer bombed when her first
movie tanked. No one will hire her now. On top of that, her boyfriend
dumped her and her blonde hair has begun to grow dark roots.
Then,
things get worse. Maddie is diagnosed with leukemia. She has to
abort the baby to get the treatment she needed. But she remained
positive. She would simply get well and then have another baby.
Olivia,
however, knows she could lose her sister. Olivia is struggling to
cope while she tries to fulfill Maddie’s wish: to make a movie
of Don Quixote. Through letters, faxes and emails, we follow Olivia’s
story as she tackles the difficult movie, her love life and Maddie’s
worsening illness. Beginning with the letter she wrote to Maddie
before Maddie was born, Olivia tells a story of personal growth
amid triumph and tragedy.
I
don’t usually like stories about the entertainment industry,
but this one was different. It was well-written and not filled with
the excesses of Hollywood stars. Instead, it has warm, human characters
and a story worth hearing. So, pick up your favorite version of
The True and Outstanding Adventures of the Hunt Sisters.
You’ll find it worth your time.
