Dreaming in Technicolor
The Sequel to Dreaming in Black & White

by Laura Jensen Walker

Exuberant, warm, real, refreshing are all words that come to mind after finishing Dreaming in Technicolor. The protagonist, Phoebe Grant, is a slightly overweight, Christian thirty-something who doesn't want to be single anymore. She's recently begun dating a wonderful man and is anxious to spend Christmas and New Years with him, when he's called home to England after his father suffers a heart attack. Without her new beau on her arm, Phoebe tries to be strong but it's not easy; especially when her best friend calls to announce she got engaged. Phoebe grapples with being supportive and happy for her friend, while she's jealous at the same time.

Add an elderly friend of Phoebe's who's found her stride since retirement and has become a world traveler, and Phoebe begins a fantastic adventure in England where she learns who she is and where she's going.

This book provides a fun romp through England as well as portraying the struggles of real Christian women. Unlike secular chic-lit, where everyone is hopping in and out of bed with each other, Phoebe approaches her potential relationships with a healthy dose of attraction but also with self control. Her character quirks and flaws make her an endearing and unforgettable character and the descriptions of England will swallow you up and not let you out until you turn the last page. I stayed up well past my bedtime because I couldn't bear to put the book down until I knew what Phoebe was going to do and whether she would get the man.
