Help Wanted, Desperately
By Ariel Horn

Remember trying to find that first real job? Maybe you started during college. Maybe it was when you moved away from home. Alexa Hoffman is a college senior who is counting down the time till she graduates to find that perfect, real life job. Unfortunately, she doesn't know what she wants to do in the real world. She does know that she wants to be near her boyfriend, Jared, who already has his job lined up. Luckily, Alexa always has a back-up plan, teaching English on the Third World island of Majuro.

Ms. Horn nails her debut novel on the head. Help Wanted, Desperately is filled with humor and readers cannot but help feel sympathy towards Alexa. Ms. Horn takes a stressful situation, finding a job, and turns it into a humorous and thoroughly enjoyable read. Alexa's character is perfect for this type of novel. Her countdown to graduation adds to the reader's understanding of senior stress. The hilarious lineup of interviews Alexa goes on makes readers realize that, unfortunately, some people really do have to go through all of that to find the job that they want.
