Unspoken

by Angela Hunt

Selma's a 150 lb. western lowland gorilla which 30 year old Glee Granger has raised from a newborn in her home away from the zoo. Glee teacher her sign language and hopes to teach her to read, hoping to prove that gorillas can assimilate abstract concepts.

The director of the Thousand Oaks Zoo in Clearwater, Florida is impressed by Glee's work with Selma and demands Selma's return to the zoo. Brad Fielding is at the zoo to help Selma adjust to the gorilla habitat. He is a "by the book" researcher and is in conflict with Gee's theories. There is a strong attraction between the two. The conflict between the two escalates when Selma begins to "talk" to Glee about a "shining man" who offers insights about God.

This is an incredible story with incredible subject matter. The writing is excellent. The concept keeps the reader intrigued and makes the book hard to put down. This is a must-read for animal lovers who can relate to the bond between Glee and Selma.
