A Wedding in December

by Anita Shreve
Narrated by Linda Emond

Very few find love the second time around the way Bill and Bridget have. Years ago, after graduation, the two went their own ways. They recently met up again and despite Bridget's ill health go forward with the wedding plans. Nora, a former classmate invites Bill and Bridget along with other former classmates to her Bed and Breakfast. After the once popular clique gets back together old feelings and memories -- good and bad -- surface, some naturally, some vindictively. The most sensitive topic is the death of a popular classmate.

Listening to this audio book reminded me of the classic movie The Big Chill - former classmates get together, minus the one who died. In A Wedding in December Shreve's characters have a lot to say -- confess even -- but it takes time and revelation to get them there. Listeners will find patience is a virtue as the characters' lives unfold. Various emotions run the gambit for these characters and it felt like I experienced them, too. The wedding is the main storyline, but for me there were many stories and all touchingly lead to one revelation - acceptance, and one conclusion - moving on.

Linda Emond narrates the audio version. Her work includes movies, TV appearances, and Broadway. Emonds narrates with ease and often times a sense of understanding. This is one audio book you should pass on to a good friend.
