Dear John
by Nicholas Sparks
In this modern-day love story, boy
meets girl on a beach in North Carolina. John, on leave from the army
and fed up with the way his life has gone so far, is drinking beer
and contemplating his life when he meets Savannah. She brings new
meaning to his life, and in hopes he can finish his stay in the service
and get back to her, John tries to fit into her lifestyle - a life
different from the one he’s always known with a father he struggles
to understand. A fight, a war and 9/11 all serve as interrupters in
John’s plan for happily ever after with Savannah.
One day a "Dear
John" letter arrives for him while he is still fighting the war
and far from home. Can John pick up the pieces of his broken heart?
Will he ever see Savannah again? This is a poignant story set in
the time of the life we know now as post 9/11. There are touches
of sadness and love we all face in our life. The story is told from
John’s point of view; and while you hope that Savannah will
value John for the man he is, in the end it's John who will decide
his future.
