Theresa Elaine Hopson is a well known business woman in the quite southern town of Durham, North Carolina. Her
store, "Miss Thang's Holy Ghost Corner and Church Woman's Boutique" has won the attention and patronage of all of
the fine, black church women in the area. The women come in search of the perfect Sunday hat or gift, and often
leave with what Theresa laughingly refers to as the "Saved Hoochie Mama underpants". Nice sexy underwear with
religious sayings on them.
So why, Theresa wonders, is a nice, forty-something business woman, active in the church, still unable to find
that perfect strong and centered black man to share her life with.
Even Baby Doll Henderson, the town eccentric with her horribly obvious false teeth, navy blue socks and jelly
shoes has a man to call her own.
Could it be that the men that Theresa spends her time with are simply not the best choice for her? There is the
assistant Pastor, Reverend Parvell Sykes, but he is greedy and conniving.
Then there is Miss Queen Esther's nephew, Lamont. Miss Queen Esther is quick to tell you about your business but
Lamont, a very good looking man does not attend church and does not take life very seriously.
When a wealthy developer starts snooping around the neighborhood where Theresa grew up, she decides she must put
aside her own opinions and listen to her heart and her God, and perhaps find the happiness that has been there all
along.

I must say that Ms. Bowen seems to know of what she writes. I loved the familiar setting of Durham, North
Carolina and the characters that she so deftly brought to life.
