Because She Can
by Bridie Clark
Read by Mary Birdsong
Claire Truman’s life takes a dramatic turn after she runs into Randall Cox, a man she fantasized about during her
college days. Randall, who is rich, handsome, and actually nice, introduces her to Vivian Grant, a genius in the
publishing world. Claire has heard about Grant’s ability to emasculate men and demoralize women who work for her,
but at triple the pay and a move up the publishing ladder, she’s willing to take the risk. Claire finds love with
Randall, and Vivian treats her like a new best friend. So what could go wrong?
Claire begins her story just as she’s preparing to say "I do" and Vivian stalks in making work-related demands.
She then takes readers back through the last few months and all who have played an important part in her life to
show readers/listeners why she makes the choice she makes.
Because She Can is a memorable debut novel. Bridie Clark has created a Cruella De Vil
(101 Dalmations) / Miranda Priestly (Devil Wears Prada) character in Vivian. She is absolutely
wicked! The cruelty of her and her minions really tried my patience. Listed as fiction, Because She Can
reads more like a chick-lit in that it’s about a woman’s professional and love life.
Mary Birdsong presented a strong narration. Because She Can is a quick listen with a fascinating
storyline about the publishing world. Just try to walk away before it’s done. Wanting to know her decision will
have you back pretty quick. Claire’s life is better than water cooler gossip; share it with friends.
