Photographer P.S. Davis has spent many years photographing dogs and their people in the south. From well to do ladies with pampered poodles to the homeless gentleman with his curly haired pooch. All these animals are cherished and loved.

Author, Roberta Gamble has collected a wonderful array of quotes about the southerner's love for the dog by some of the South's most respected authors.

Included in these authors are Clyde Edgerton, Lee Smith, James Agee, James Dickey, Truman Capote and William Faulkner. One of my favorite quotes from the book was by the famous comedian, Lewis Grizzard. " I've said it often, but it remains true: the thing about a dog is, you can home at any hour, in any condition and the dog cares not. He, or she, is just glad to see you."

Each quote was aptly illustrated with a wonderful black and white photograph.

And the truest quote came not from the books quote section but a picture of a beloved pets tombstone. The stone read." Words cannot express the joy of knowing you or the sorrow of losing you."
