If you plan to visit the Big Apple this handy guide will tell you most of what you want to know.  If you are researching for a novel set in New York, or want to find out more for whatever reason then this is surely your book.  Updated every year, this guide lets you know what is hot and what is not, where to stay, eat, go for a dance and a drink or a spot of culture, where to watch live sport and how to avoid getting lost.  It also tells you where not to eat and stay and what to avoid.  A neat potted history takes you from New Amsterdam in the earliest days (of white settlement that is), through the Civil War to today, with a list of notable dates.  If you are gay or lesbian there is plenty for you, non-stop entertainment for children and there is even a guide to what to expect from the TV channels if there isn’t already too much to do outside wherever you are staying.

I can’t think of a more exhaustive guide for tourists apart from getting very friendly with a knowledgeable local!
