"Bear Tales For The Ages" is Larry Kaniut's seventh adventure packed book of outdoor danger; bear attacks, and outdoor lore. It's a cant-put-it-down white knuckle read from page one to the end.

Larry has chosen 28 stories of bear attacks from 1816 to 1999. These were mostly gleaned from his extensive collection of out of print bear books, and rewritten here to introduce a new generation to the wonder of this tenacious animal, and the indomitable spirit of man.

A grizzly bear in Montana ambushes a sheepherder, then there was the man who mounted a "set-gun" to kill a grizzly, only to have the gun go off prematurely, shooting the man in the abdomen. The bear followed the blood trail to his cabin. Kaniut chronicles bear and bull fights, and a bear and Bull Moose fight in the wild.

Since I, too, live in Alaska, this book has certainly increased my respect for the big bears. They are beautiful animals, but they do not interact well with people. Kaniut's writing is very exciting; he is a premier storyteller, and the action is nonstop.

You can feel the author's anguish when man loses the battle, but the bears are portrayed with respect, awe, and a merged love and fear. Plan to stay up all night to finish this book. You just as well...you are not going to sleep.
