The characters in this book are many and varied. They range from larger than life to minuscule. They have fins, feathers, shells or scales; they are the fauna that inhabit and/or benefit from the waters of THE DYNAMIC GREAT LAKES. And, according to the author, Barbara Spring, some of them are either extinct, or on a journey of no return to extinction.

THE DYNAMIC GREAT LAKES by Barbara Spring provides the reader with an in-depth look at one of North America's greatest natural wonders: the Great Lakes. Starting with their geological history and formation, Spring takes the reader on a chapter by chapter journey through all Great Lakes and surrounding regions. In addition, she includes vivid descriptions of wildlife that directly benefits from these great waters. Unfortunately, in the last half of the last century many of the benefits these waters provide became detriments to the health of the dependent wildlife, as pollutants contaminated not only the waters but the food chain, as well.

THE DYNAMIC GREAT LAKES is well organized with individual chapters devoted to each of the Great Lakes. Each chapter is headed by a pertinent quote, quotes which range from Thoreau to Proverbs to John F. Kennedy. It also includes maps, aerial overviews, and photos of some of the more unusual denizens of the Great Lakes. Anyone interested in learning more about one of America's greatest natural resources will benefit from this book.
