Saturday Night Live has become an institution and hallmark in U.S.
American television and comedy history. The show, which debuted in 1975,
has brought a different kind of humor to the forefront. This humor now
pervades and is a part of the U.S. American pop culture lexicon. The book
Live From New York recounts the many histories of Saturday Night
Live. From the beginnings with Lorne Michaels and Rosie Schulman to
the times of Gilda Radner and Lorraine Newman to the greatness of Phil
Hartman to now with Jimmy Fallon and Tina Fey. It recounts the highs and
the lows, which of course include the deaths of John Belushi, Gilda Radner,
Phil Hartman, and Chris Farley. I enjoyed these funny, sometimes sarcastic,
sometimes poignant tales of the cast members and writers of Saturday
Night Live. The authors should be commended for such a wonderful job
and an interesting book.
