La Vie En Rose
By Suzanne Lowry

Photography: Tim Clinch

La Vie En Rose: Living in France is a descriptive, image-filled tome that is perfect for those who may be in love with France and the beauty it has to offer in terms of history and interior decoration. The book yields history and language lessons with each chapter through various references to French monarchy in the first portion and various terms given in French.

The first chapter, The Grand Style, Memoires de la Gloire details the genuinely rustic classical feel of French homes and chateaus. With the homes of Jacques de Crussol, Phillipine de Ganay and many others shown as fine examples, the reader is taken on a glorious flashback journey of Old France.

The second chapter, Paris Chic, La Vie de Boheme obviously focuses on the Parisian style and influence on homes and apartments. This chapter showcases a more post-modern look and feel of France itself.

The third and final chapter, Life in the Country, Le Bonheur est dans le Pre, is a combination of the previous styles presented, the rustic classical feel with a very slight post modern edge. The homes are as glorious inside as they are outside.

For those with a great interest in French style and interior decoration, I highly recommend this book.
