see the last of the captain he was replacing. Mind you, at that time,
Abrashoff wasn't near the leader he would be two years later. Abrashoff
proudly admits Benfold became the best ship in the Navy under his
watch, but he also admits it took the entire crew to make it so. "It's
your ship" is what Abrashoff often told his men when they asked him
how they should do things. His goal was to make them experience the
responsibility and pride in running the USS Benfold. From there Abrashoff
and his crew learned how to save the military and tax payers' money,
create databases, prepare war games, make repairs, save time and provide
decent chow. Abrashoff even takes on his superiors with the belief
that there is a better way.
