Kate A. Thompson takes us along and shares her journey traveling throughout the land of Israel.
Faith & Falafel: My Spiritual Journey in Israel is an excellent book. I found it fascinating to read
and highly recommend it to others.
Falafel is considered Israel's national food and consists of pita bread stuffed with falafel (fried chick peas)
balls.
In February of 2005, two leaders and thirteen students from First Baptist Church in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
boarded a plane for Israel.
I felt I was right there with them, walking through Israel and seeing the holy land. If you have never visited
Israel, this book will make you want to go there. Really good book!
They visited Jaffa (called Joppa in the Bible) where Jonah set sail for Tarshish, where Peter raised Tabitha
from the dead and where Peter had the vision of the clean and unclean food on the roof of Simon the Tanner's
house. They visited Cana where Jesus performed his first miracle, turning the water into wine. They sailed on
the Sea of Galilee and learned of modern day Israeli history. Some were even rebaptized in the Jordan River just
as Jesus was. They visited Jerusalem, the religious capital of the world. Jerusalem sits on a hill so you are
always going uphill when you enter it. I had not known this and found this piece of information to be fascinating.
They also saw "The Mount of Olives", "The Garden of Gethsemane", "The Kidron Valley" and "The Via Dolorosa",
or the "Way of Sorrows", the very path Jesus walked on the day of his crucifixion.
Kate A. Thompson talks of her visit to Israel as a life changing experience of feeling a deep spiritual
connection to the holy land, knowing that the roots of the Christian faith were planted there some 2000 years
ago. Feeling a deep spiritual peace there that emanates from every stone and every blade of grass.
